my mom has high blood pressure, my dad's a diabetic.
so, when they had me, they found out i was a thalassemic. minor, mind you. and, well, it didn't affect me much. just that during p.e. in school, i found myself tiring easily. more easily than other people about my size. how was that possible? i told my parents, and they said it was because i was unhealthy. okay. who can argue with logic like that? but the time finally came when they told me i was a thalassemic. i have the less severe thalassemia. but all the same, it still affects.

when i heard the testimony by the thalassemic major, i felt a jolt in the heart region.

that could've been me, she could've been me. i could've been that girl standing there, i could have very well been the one needing monthly or even weekly blood transfusions- i could've been one to die from thalassemia so severe it devoured red blood cells.

but i wasn't.
