matthew 7:13-14
christians= followers/people of the way.
way- narrow.
~narrow= you know how to walk in righteousness.
R=legalism.
there are 3 types of legalism.
#1. Divorces the letter of the law from the spirit of the law.
->right outward action but wrong inward motivation.
(doing it cause it's expected of you.)
Isaiah 29:13
Amos 5:21-24
God is looking for the narrow way.
narrow way: righteousness, integrity, honesty..
eg. Pharisees= whitewashed tombs
whitewashed tombs->look beautiful outseide but inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean.
Sabbath was made for man to enjoy.
#2. Adding legislation to the law of God and treats the addition as if it were divine law.
matthew 23:4, 15, 23-24
There are times you have to stand up for your faith.
#3. relying on performance to merit favour before God.
galatians 2:16
legalism is the universal tendency of mankind.
-why? we like to be in control.*
result of legalism on an individual
->it makes you a weaker person.
1 corinthians 8:9
->(weak in conscience and stumbles easily)
example of a person who is caged up and restricted all his life, if he is suddenly given freedom, he will go crazy!
->gotta be watched over all the time.
let moderation be your way of life.
obedience is not work.
Hebrews 11:8
BY FAITH.
true faith= true obedience.
conservatism is not legalism.
(some people more conservative than others.)
conservatives turned legalists?
-critical of people not as conservative.
legalism blocks God from moving.
matthew 24:12
lawlessness increases, love of God decreases.
i can see this is gonna be long... maybe i'd better write in my other blog. see y'all.
